Book review: Kill Joy

I binge read the A GOOD GIRL’S GUIDE TO MURDER (AGGGTM) series last year. It quickly became one of the best books I’ve read. So good, that I bought a copy of the series for my personal library (I had originally borrowed the books). Holly Jackson became a must-buy author. I was thrilled when she published another YA thriller FIVE SURVIVE which is as good! When I saw that there was an upcoming short novella based on AGGGTM, I had to read it! Thankfully NetGalley and the publisher granted my wish!

Synopsis:

You're invited to the murder mystery party of the year! Fans of the hit series A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder will love Pip’s final detective case in this mystery novella from #1 New York Times bestselling author Holly Jackson.

Six suspects. Three hours. One murder…

Pip is not in the mood for her friend’s murder mystery party. Especially one that involves 1920’s fancy dress and pretending that their town is an island called Joy. But when the game begins, Pip finds herself drawn into the make-believe world of intrigue, deception and murder.

But as Pip plays detective, teasing out the identity of the killer clue-by-clue, the murder of the fictional Reginald Remy isn’t the only case on her mind.

Review:

In KILL JOY, Pip and her friends attended a 1920’s themed murder mystery dinner party. It gave some insight to how Pip became inspired to solve the murder in her town for her senior project in AGGGTM. Holly Jackson has a talent for writing such an exciting novel (and suspenseful), her story makes your mind constantly run as you read to figure out what’s next. It was quick and a great read!

Kill Joy will be released tomorrow, February 28th.

Thank you Random House Children/Delacorte Press and NetGalley for the advanced copy. All opinions are my own.
