All Aboard the Sabino: Mystic, CT

If you've spent any time in Mystic, Connecticut, chances are you've spotted the Sabino gliding along the Mystic River. It is a coal-fired steamboat that looks like it sailed straight out of another era. Built in 1908 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1992, she came to Mystic Seaport Museum in the 1970s and has been captivating visitors ever since.

Shortly after I moved to Mystic, the Sabino underwent a multi-year restoration project. I found myself drawn to the shipyard at the museum again and again, watching the work unfold. When she finally returned to the water, fully operational, I was in awe. A 100 plus-year-old landmark — still running. Think of all the stories she's carried since 1908!

I fell in love when I took my first ride on Sabino. She ran so smoothly and the views of the Seaport… so beautiful! Walking the grounds at the Seaport isn’t enough, you have to see it from water — trust me! If you want even more of the scenery, Sabino cruises through Downtown and out towards Noank twice daily!

Sabino is one of the most iconic landmark in Mystic. I’ve loved chasing her with my camera… at sunrise, at sunset, through fog and fair weather, from every angle I can find.
