Here are some of my August reads:

Reputation [5/5]

Coming from the same author of ‘Anatomy of a Scandal’, I enjoyed this read! It was a read about the dark sides of politics in the British government. I love how it covered issues with social media, how our decisions can impact in many ways. This also read as a legal thriller as the majority of this story took place in a courtroom. A very well written, addictive thriller read!

The Lies I Tell [5/5]

I am a fan of the author’s previous book ‘The Last Flight’. I enjoyed this thriller about a con artist and a reporter. They both are seeking justice and revenge in a different way. I found myself rooting for the con artist once I learned her background. A very juicy, fast paced read with plenty of tension!

Cover Story [5/5]

This is the perfect read for those who were a fan of ‘Inventing Anna’ on Netflix! A fun, juicy thriller about con artist living at the Plaza Hotel in New York City and working for a fashion magazine. The style of the book was really interesting as it was diary excerpts, text messages, social media posts and notes. I really liked that, it was a very bingeable read! And… THAT ENDING!!! What?!

Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow [4/5]

I would have NEVER picked this up because it was about gamers. It circulated around on bookstagram so much that it made me curious. I was reading the same thing: ‘I would have never read this, I’m not into gaming, etc’ but people still liked it, so eventually I caved. First of all, I was transported back to RIT (my college, Rochester Institute of Technology) because there was a large gaming community! I felt like I was reading about fellow classmates. I was intrigued with the beautiful friendship between Sam and Sadie. I was invested and ended up caring about them. It was slow in some parts, and it was heavy (in a good way!). Despite it being a long 416 pages, it was very well written. I would recommend this read!

The Irish Boarding House [3.5/5]

A feel-good read about second chances. It took place in Dublin during the 1950’s, which I enjoyed. Mary Kate was a person who helped others who needed that, which was a wonderful representation of the Irish. I’ve found the Irish to be one of the kindest people!

All Good People Here [3.5/5]

People on social media raved about this crime thriller, so I picked up a copy of this book. I was expecting a lot with the author being a journalist and a podcaster. I did enjoyed how the setting was a small town, with gossipy folks. It kept me interested all the way to the end. The end was where I had issues. It felt unfinished. It ended so abruptly and left me with more questions. I did enjoyed the majority of the book, the cold case reminded me a lot of the JonBenet Ramsey case.

The Prison Guard’s Daughter [5/5]

A memoir written by a daughter of a slain corrections officer, who was killed at Attica Prison Riot in 1971. I studied a lot about prison reforms while I was in college, as I was a criminal justice major. The Attica Prison Riot often came up in the classes since I was only 40 miles from Attica, NY. I have read many stories from inmates, but never from the ‘other side’. This book was very emotional, powerful and raw. I was so surprised at all of the new facts that I was learning that I never learned in the classroom. There were several parts where I got so angry, that I had to take a break from reading. This is very well written memoir, one that will stay with me. I highly recommend this read.

The Final Gambit [5/5]

The final book of The Inheritance Games trilogy series. I throughly enjoyed the first two and this was just as good! A fun suspenseful read, I was so excited to finally figure out the big mystery! I loved the fast paced read with puzzles/riddles to solve. I’m bummed that this series is over! I loved it so much that I’m sure I will return to re-read this series again.

Unfortunately there’s a few books that were DNF (Did Not Finish). I really tried to like those books but couldn’t be interested enough to continue reading:
