Old Wethersfield Scarecrow Walk

The beautiful historic Old Wethersfield quickly became a favorite town when I visited it earlier this year. I wrote a blog about the visit here. It was without a question that I would come back to visit. With many events cancelled this year due to COVID-19, I didn’t think I’d be back to Old Wethersfield until the holidays (to see the town decked out)!

A couple weeks ago, I read about the 25th annual Scarecrows along Main event. To my surprise, it was a perfect autumn day activity! I went up to Old Wethersfield during the week to take a stroll along Main Street. Many businesses and residents created scarecrows which are on display until November 1st. It was all outdoors, plenty of social distancing from others.

It was so fun to see all of the scarecrows (there are 50+ of them)! During the stroll, we also popped in Heirloom Market (the eatery mentioned in the original blog) for a sandwich. It is so GOOD! Heirloom Market definitely ranks high on my favorite places to eat in Connecticut. I also popped in one of my favorite general stores - Old Wethersfield Country Store, also previously mentioned in the original blog. I brought a gluten-free/vegan Maple flavored cupcake which was delicious! I loved checking out their fun candles collection!

We visited a new shop to Old Wethersfield Main street, Drumroll Coffee. Recently opened during summer, they roast and grind coffee fresh. As we walked up to the entrance, we were greeted by the owner who fed my pup a biscuit. The owner had a conversation with my husband about his days of growing up in Old Wethersfield, we learned it wasn’t always a ‘sidewalk community’. That was really interesting fact to learn since it’s a beautiful walkable town! The owner was super friendly and had an impressive selection of coffee to choose from. We purchased a bag of Hi-Hat Roast which had a hint of caramel, apple, cirtus and pear to take home and brew!

If you’re not too far from Old Wethersfield (right outside of Hartford), it is worthwhile to check out the Scarecrows Along Main event. It is a fun and enjoyable fall activity to do!

There were many beautiful homes to enjoy on the walk too - this one looks ‘Halloween’ themed to me!
